Chapter 0.2 - Introduction (Castor: Flashback)

by DM B

Timestamp: Two months ago, as the Imperials count time

Location: Sicarus, Eye of Horus

Situation: Responding to an unexpected summons by the Dark Council

Body: You were just about ready to leave for Bokiba-Bapas - you had learned some time ago that Abaddon was calling for a third reaving of Finial - when the summons came. A summons from the Dark Council. Signed 'Aurelian'. Which doesn't mean anything really. Half the upper echelons seem to have taken Aurelian as a name to honor the Primarch. There is only one Lorgar - but there are very many Aurelians. Gol Badar Aurelian. Der Mog Aurelian. And of course there is THE Lorgar Aurelian. But no-one calls him that. There is no need. There is only one Lorgar. One Bearer of the Word.

But I digress. Back to the matter at hand. The Dark Council. One does not turn down a summons from that august body of Apostles. It would be as unhealthy as it is impolite. You find that you are not alone. A score more brothers are here. Some well known to you, others less. You've one thing in common - you command the loyalty of others. And you're all going to Bokiba-Bapas.

The Council has a few words of caution and advice to you. It is the Word and Will of Lorgar that you support Abaddon's plans. His previous two reavings have failed - for lack of faith no doubt. Now you will all go to Bokiba-Bapas and make sure the thrid reaving is not a failure. Lorgar is watching. Lorgar is testing your faith and mettle.

The Council also wishes for you to keep your eyes and ears open. They would like to know why (other than lack of faith) the other two reavings have failed. Who are commanding the Imperials with such foresight and brillinace? Why is the Inquisition so good at rooting out Abaddon's agents? Where are all the Imperial reinforcements coming from?

The unspoken message is this (Castor is sure the messagfe is lost upon many of the commanders, but a few catch the Council's meaning): Take Finial and burn every world to the edge of the galaxy if you can - if you can't then stay alive and report back to us. That's the real Word and Will of Lorgar.

Directly following your meeting with the Council you are summoned once more - this time for a more private session. No names are spoken, so you can only guess that your host is truly a member of the Council. Come to think of it you do not really know the names of all the Council members - nor would you necessarily recognize them...

You are greeted by a lone Battle-Brother in simple utility robes. He is taller than most Astartes, but not excessively so. His face is stern, but his eyes are warm and welcoming, full of certainty and the wisdom of the ages. He looks Terran to you, not Colchan. You had not thought there to be many of those left, and certainly not on the Council.

Castor`s smile is just as warm as he greets hes brother. "Good too see you my brother, I come by the word of the council"

He places his left hand upon your right shoulder and look you in the eyes: "I have heard good things about you Castor. That you are a self-made man. An Apostle of the Word and Will of Lorgar, not just made so by the consent of the Council, but born out of your own zeal and insight."

He continues: "The Legion has need of men like you Castor. It is a brave new galaxy out there and the old guard is ill prepared to handle it all. The future will not be decided by men who hide here on Sicarus. Only men like you Castor have the vigor and vision needed to go out there are truly spread the Word to the unbelievers, to set them free and guide them along the path to enlightenment."

"By the word and with the word, the unbelievers will be brought too the light of the gods" Castor thinks abit about why this brother fell the need to piss him up the backside, Castor will go and spread the word, and bring fire smelling of this brothers piss or not. As for the politics he can keep it, Castor has no interest in spending the ages her bickering with with brother or killing true believers to gain nothing but temporal power, when there are servants of a dead god to kill out there.

Cator smiles and speak further to hes brother: "We are of one mind brother, we need men of action as it happens I have room for a good assault party leader in case you want to practice what you preach, I dont mind telling you my Brother that the addition to the war would be most welcome"

A faint smile spreads across hard features: "Now that would be something...to lead from the front once more! Alas, I have other duties that weigh heavily on my shoulders...but the day WILL come when I shall hold you to your offer. Make sure your host is strong and legion in number ere that day!" He lets go of your shoulder and you find you are no longer rooted to the spot. He takes a step away from you. "You would do well not to let zeal could your senses or use the faith to set yourself apart. True praise from a Brother is not something to be scoffed at. Some would say it's one of the few things of any real worth." He gets down to business: "As an Apostle you hear many things. Have you ever heard of the Legend of the Star Child?"

"I don't put my faith in numbers, hosts or legions, they matter not. Only the word will set the galaxy free. And my faith is in the word. You will be disappointed if you wait for my host to number legion before you will fight. I bring fire with what I have, not idle dreams of power, and I have fifty. Now the word says that we need to fight for the truth, fight for what is right, fight to bring the the true gods into the light of the human world and I'll do that by the word, until they are dead or I'm dead. Praise from a fighting brother is worthy of note, and is not to be taken lightly - some say it is the highest mark of honor one can receive. As the broadsides of the fallen hit my ship I will keep the praise in mind and I'm sure it will bring comfort to me and my "host". As a apostle or astartes I have not heard the tale of the star child, I hope that does not diminish me further in your eyes."

Comment from:
"When you stride the stars, spreading the word of truth, I am sure your ranks will swell. But well, the Star Child. The Legend of the Star Child is a lie, concocted and disseminated by the followers of Tzeentch, to confuse and weaken the followers of the Corpse-God. In it's simplest form it says that the Emperor is really dead. Not interred on the Throne, just dead. And that he will be reincarnated when the stars are right."
05/18/12 @ 19:06
Comment from:
"Not true as it happened. And the Inquisition put an end to the cult back in the 41st millennium. But now the Emperor IS dead, and free of the Throne at last. And reincarnation is a common ingredient in many religions. Making the Legend of the Star Child, if not true, then at least a possibility that must not be ignored - the Emperor of Mankind. Reborn."

Comment from:
"I do not claim to have prophetic vision or have listened to the voices of the warp. But I do claim to have spent the better part of 10.000 years studying religion in all it's guises. And if there ever was a soul that has a chance of rebirth - it is His. If the First Man is reborn in our time he must be found. Found, and made to listen to the Word, so that he may be free at last. Let Him listen like Horus listened, and he will become one of the enlightened. Already there are many rumors of new 'Emperors'. Most of them false no doubt. Many created by the agents of the Imperium to rally the defenders and confuse the attackers. But we cannot allow any lead to go uninvestigated. Including the Finial lead - there are those that say a young Emperor is leading the defenders, which is why we are losing every battle. In my heart I know this is not the case, but my heart also tells me that something momentous has begun out there on the edge. Do you understand me Castor? If the Emperor has been reborn you are to find him and bring him before me. If it cannot be done, but he has returned, then kill him so that he may be reborn once more. Such is the Will of Lorgar."

Comment from:
"Then by The word and will of Lorgnar it will be so, he will join us or die"

Comment from:
"Beware the other Legions Castor. If He can be found they will seek to claim him for themselves. They have seen but part of the Truth, but they do not believe as we do. It cannot be allowed to happen. Now, join me in prayer before you depart."

"Yes let us get the blessings of the gods, and look to the word for a path forward"
