Katanas

Katanas

by DM B

YELLOW KATANAS COMBAT GROUP

Commanding officer: Col. Takari Tanida

JUMPSHIPS

  • Invader-class: Sword of Chesterton. The Lancer's original jumpship. Paid for with salvage bonus for saving the Tatanya Fusion Works. Remaining loans paid off with bonus from ComStar for recovering the ECV Argonaut. Jumpdrive calibration is a bit dodgy.
  • Merchant-class: Queen of Chesterton. Seized from the Oberon Pirates during 2nd Steelton. Has a faulty main fusion core, so can't charge without the sail, but is otherwise in good shape.

AEROSPACE ESCORT

Jumpship escort is provided by a pair of 100-ton Stukas abord the invader. And a 90-ton Chippewa abord  the merchant. Each of them has more firepower than the jumpships they are protecting. A light zero rounds out the mix.

  • Stuka - Charles Fontaine, "Starburst": Flight (lance) leader in charge of protecting the Sword. One of Iceqeen's "new" pilots (with all the really new pilots he's quickly become a "veteran" of the Lancer ASF wing). Starburst is an experienced house-pilot-turned-merc from Davion space.
  • Stuka - Erika Nagel, "Nova": Graduated top 5 of the ASF class of 3000 at Steiner's Nagelring academy. Declined a commission and went merc instead. Her hero is Maverick (he avoids her like the plague). Icy expects her to crash and burn, so keeps her on jumpship guard duty, far from Maverick.
  • Chippewa
  • Zero

DROPSHIPS

  • Lion-Class: Lion of Chesterton.Takari's personal ride. Taken from the House of Grim at the. Home to the Katanas' command lance, Carlos's workshop and the Cadets' mechs. And the 2 commpanys of Nighthawk Battle armour.
  • Union-class: Grace of Chesterton. Taken at the first battle of harvest. Home of the Sommerseth strikers.
  • Union-class: Pride of Chesterton. The original Union that was delivered to the Lancers on Galatea. Home to 1st Company.
  • Union-class: Valor of Chesterton. Captured from Marik forces on North Whitman and never ransomed. Home to 2nd Company.
  • Union-class: Honor of Chesterton. Captured from Marik forces on North Whitman and never ransomed. home to 3rd Compnay.
  • Union-class (unarmed): Duty of Chesterton. The original support Union that was delivered to the Lancers on Galatea. Filled to the brim with everything needed to keep a merc battalion going.
  • Gazelle-Class: Balista of Chesterton. Taken from the house of grim, when the Merchant was taken. Home of the Striker Batalion.
  • Leopard CV-class: Eagle of Chesterton. Catured in the space battle over St. John, repaired at great expense, now serving as base for WC Icy and the Gothas.

AEROSPACE

The Katanas are now fully equipped with SLDF aerospace fighters recovered during the 2nd Rubicon run.

The main fighter is the 60-ton Gotha, a true space superiority fighter, heavily armored and bristling with long range guns and missiles. They are, however, on the slow side of a fighter. The Gothas operate out of a Leo CV, which greatly extends their range and allows the crews to delay launching until they are required to fight.

Other fighters include: The Hellcat II, a quick 50-tonner equipped with a sophisticated sensor array and a pair of large ER lasers. The Tomahwak, a 50-ton hothead dogfighter with twin heavy pulse lasers that can melt itself almost as fast as its opponents. And finally the Rogue, a weakly armored 40-tonner with an impressive load of missiles.

  • Gotha (60t) - WCmd Elizabeth Turner, Icequeen (Icy). Marik deserter. One of BWL's first ASF pilots. Formerly Maverick's wingman and second in command, now commanding officer, BWL Aerospace Forces. Nowadays she spends less time watching Maverick and more time doing her duty, which includes keeping her other pilots alive.
  • Gotha (60t) - WCmd James Garner, Maverick. Marik deserter. One of BWL's first ASF pilots. Stepped down as commander of ASF assets, but retains his rank of Wing Commander. He's still reckless and his death wish is still there, but he seems unwilling to jeopardize any of the other pilots. Is also proving to be a fairly effective instructor (but not role model) for the "kids".
  • Gotha (60t) - FLt Hawk, "Hawkeye". ComStar aerospace instructor. Volunteered to come with the mechwarriors rotating in to work with the Lancers. Has beyond perfect eyesight and through-the-roof gunnery scores. He's in charge of ASF pilot training.
  • Gotha (60t) - "Windsurfer"
  • Gotha (60t) - "Pokerchip"
  • Gotha (60t) - John Anderson, "Viper". The only Kuritan ASF pilot in BWL employ. Shot down over St. John, but recovered by the Katanas. Considers his old self dead, and with it all obligations. Has sworn allegiance to Takari - and taken a new name. But "John Anderson"... seriosuly? Those snakes are crazy... but don't say it to their face!
  • Hellcat II (50t) - Noomi Joy, "Streak". Steiner ASF ace. Her company was engaged in an epic aerobattle against the snakes over Tamar, and she scored five kills before being shot down herself (obviously she ejected safely).
  • Hellcat II (50t) - "Hardhat"
  • Tomahawk (50t) - "Courtcase"
  • Tomahawk (50t) - "Chaos"
  • Rogue (40t) - "Vampire", Sister of Spectre. Former Hesperus II defence force pilot, recently graduated from Nagelring. Did not see action during the Marik-Kuritan attack. Drawn to a life of adventure. Passed Maverick's tests.
  • Rogue (40t) - "Spectre", Brother of Vampire. Former Hesperus II defence force pilot, recently graduated from Nagelring. Did not see action during the Marik-Kuritan attack. Drawn to a life of adventure. Passed Maverick's tests.
  • Stingray  (60t) - "Rose", Former Tharkad air defence pilot. Joined to put skills to use.  After all, garison duty is not for true warriors.
  • Rogue (40t) - "Ghost", Former Hesperus II defence force pilot. Disposesed during the Marik attack. Did not want to wait a few years to get a new fighter. Passed Maverick's tests.

COMMAND LANCE

The command lance is made up of Siri and 4 other mechs (5 total). All command lance members are officers.

Siri occupies a separate mechbay aboard the dropship, which is off-limits to everyone by a chosen few. The other bays are divided into the lance bay proper and the bay for the cadets' mechs.

  • Black Knight (Siri) - Col Takari Tanida, "Kamikaze", Kills: 100. The main main. Duke of cool. Aiatola of rock and rolla.
  • Black Knight (Katanacat) - Maj Kwan Nabors "Catnip", Kills: 31. Catnip is a former DCMS mechwarrior who was dispossessed at Tamar when the 2nd Sword of Light pulled out and left the rest to die. He's of mixed Asian-African anscestry. He considers himself God's gift to all women. He currently pilots a lostech Royal Blac Knight.
  • Victor (Huntress) - Cpt Anapa Tillerson, "Fishbait", Kills: 43. Fishbait was picked up at Galatea, but NOT as a mechwarrior. As a stripper/barmaid she had little to offer a merc company, except her exoitc good looks and talent for drink-mixing. Not long after joining she had become Carlos' fav astech. Not long after that she was given the opportunity to pilot a mech (desperate times, desperate measures). Not long after that she bullied her way into the command lance by beating up Roq. Now she's the second highest scoring ace after Takari. She is also, in all probability, a FedSuns spy. Her Victor, called Huntress, has been refitted with lostech mechtronics, a combat blade and an ultra AC/20.
  • Guiliotine - Lt Adolf Norman, "Schwarzkopf", Kills: 15. Black Adolf/Schwarzkopf is a veteran of both the LCAF and the Solaris arenas. Known to Takari from the stables. Recruited on Solaris, he has been with the Lancers since before they were formally a company. Accepeted a posision with the command lance after Roq's murder by the DEST commandos. His Grasshopper, named Lindorm in Puppy's honor, has has been refitted with lostech mechtronics, twin combat blades, ER/pulse lasers (and the double sinks to go with them). Waiting for his lostech Guillotine to pass Carlos' inspection. Got a full Lostech Guiliotine to save work for Carlos
  • Hatchetman - Lt Skylar Chandini, "Mirage", Kills: 16. Mirage was one of the original recruits from Solaris. Formerly a Periphery pirate. Offered a spot in the command lance after St. John, when Takari decided to make the lance 4+1 members. Her Hatchetman is the lightest unit in the lance.

Liaison

Not currently attached to the Katanas!

  • Crab - Major Herbet Huges, "Red Crab": Commonwealth liaison to the Lancers. Mechwarrior trained. Recently promoted. Borrows a bright red Crab mech that was salvaged from some pirates.

1ST COMPANY

The Katanas' 1st company isn't the unit with the heaviest mechs (that would be 2nd company) or the most advanced (although many mechs have special modifications or lostech components). It is, however, without question the most prestigous unit and the one with the most kills combined. Partly because it's one of the oldest units, but mostly because it's made up of skilled, dedicated mechwarriors that are always in the thick of things. Sure, 2nd company has this amazing collection of assault mechs, but they almost never get to fire on the enemy. Meanwhile 1st is on top of the enemy: Teatime spots them and provides flanking fire, Drivethrough provides fire support well past the "danger close" point, before Kinx and Co. barrels into the enemy, killing mechs as they go.

Command/Battle Lance

Jinx' lance is both a command lance and a rapid assault lance, composed of mechs that can deal good damage while closing to unleash hell at point-blank/melee range. The mix of 2 Hatchetmen, a Quickdraw and a Kintaro is ideal of this kind of work. All four mechs have been customized to some extent, with Carlos having overseen most of it.

  • Hatchetman - Cpt Henry Jin, "Jinx", Kills: 11. Jinx was recruited at Gacrux, and took part in the Alcor campaign. A veteran of the 3rd Sky Rangers. Owns his own mech, a heavily modified Spider he calls "Old Widow". This mech was cored during 1st Steelton and he got a Hatchetmanwith 2 flamers as a replacement. Jinx is an Old Wolf and a Lorekeeper.
  • Quickdraw- SSgt Evelyn Burnett, "Primetime", Kills: 8. She made ace after her two kill save during the DEST ambush on St. John, and was promoted to the Katanas from 3rd Battalion shortly thereafter. After the transfer she hasn't been too hot, but Jinx insists that she's  one of the most promising young mechwarriros he's seen in quite a while, and that she also has command potential.
  • Hatchetman - (SSgt) Hermione Carroll, "Valkyrie", Kills: 14. Valkyrie is technically a Stabsfeldwebel (senior Sergeant) in the LCAF and not a true member of the Lancers. She enjoys the basic pay, bonuses and privileges of a Staff Sergeant mechwarrior. She pilots the first fully combat ready Hatchetman prototype.
  • Kintaro - SSgt Katagiri Katsumoto, "Cocky", Kills: 15. Cocky is a former member of the Crimson Wolverines, captured by Takari and offered another chance at the mercenary's life. He regrets abandoning his family, but as long as the Combined thinks he died doing his duty they will be treated decently. Piloted a Scout Lance PH for a while, but he's got a samurai's temperament and fits better in a Kintaro.

Support Lance

Commanded by veteran mechwarrior and academy instructor Drivethrough, 1st company's support lance is one of the best trained and led lances in the entire BWL. Robin and Hyper have been part of the lance for a very long time, whereas Junkyard is a more recent addition. All four mechs have been upgraded with lostech components, including ER PPCs for the Vindicator and both Griffins.

  • Vindicator - Lt Park Kellen Ramon, "Drivethrough", Kills: 12. Drivethrough (some say her callsign was given because her bed is like a drivethrough, others say it's because she'll run you through faster than you can get a serving at the local drivethrough) is a former mechwarrior academy instructor from Capella. She would never have made officer in the Confederation, but with the Lancers she's made lieutenant (and a damn good one, if a little unconventional).
  • Blackjack - SSgt Maxemillian Cornwell, "Junkyard", kills:4. Recruted to replace Schwarzkopf after he advanced to Takari's command lance. Served in 3rd battalion. A seasoned support mechwarrior. Handpicked by Drivethrough and screened by Catnip/Fishbait.
  • Griffin - SSgt Dora Kingsbury, "Robin", Kills: 7. Robin joined the Lancers as early as Galatea. She piloted a Valkyire in the Command/Support Lance for a time, then joined the Yellow Katanas 1st Company. After piloting the Kintaro under Jinx, she's pairing with Hyper again - only this time they got some REAL mechs!
  • Griffin - SSgt Blake Tolentino, "Hyper", Kills: 6. Hyper joined the Lancers as early as Galatea. He piloted a Valkyire in the Command/Support Lance for a time, then joined the Yellow Katanas 1st Company.

Scout Lance

This is one of the oldest lances in the Lancers ToE, having been part of the original ompany-sized unit. It's been expertly led by veteran lance commander Teatime since 2997. Now it has received a full complement of SLDF mechs, which is bound to make it even more effective (and drive the lance mechtechs to early, stress-induced deaths).

  • Exterminator EXD-4D - Lt. Mario Jaylen Sharmistha "Teatime", Kills: 10. Teatime was hired as a lance commander by Emmerson at Galatea. He's served as the leader of the Katana's scout lance since the 1st Company was created. Piloted his personal Super Wasp until it got cored at 1st Harvest. He then piloted a brand new Wolverine for a time, before receiving an Exterminator liberated from Rubicon.
  • Exterminator EXD-4D - GSgt John M. Andersson "POW", Kills: 6. Former lance commander in the Blue Tigers merc company. Captured by Takari after his mech was crippled. Impressed by the Lancers' skill and courage, he signed on with them. Piloted a Griffin in the Support Lance for a while. Took over the Dervish after Roc got transferred to Takari's lance. Now pilots the lance's second Exterminator. He seems a good candidate for lance command.
  • Phoenix Hawk-1B - SSgt Byron Rankin "Tiny", Kills: 9. Tiny (who is almost as tall as Jinx - and heavily built to boot) is a former (dispossessed) militia mechwarrior from Alcor. He volunteered for the Katanas without really knowing what he got into. Now that he's survived multiple battles and become and ace his confidence in his own abilities has grown. He used to pilot Catnip's old PH, but is now in a "Royal" PH, same as Hexagon.
  • Phoenix Hawk-1B - SSgt Avery Rankin "Hexagon", Kills: 5. Hexagon is Tiny's cousin. He too served with the militia and was dispossessed fighting the Blue Tigers. He has a rare eye condition (discovered after mechwarrior training) that requires him to wear special glasses to compensate. The glasses are reminiscent of hexagons in shape, giving rise to his callsign. He used to pilot Puppy's old PH, but is now the proud "owner" of a Royal Hawk, same as Tiny.

2ND COMPANY

The Katanas 2nd company is a heavy assault unit. It's expertly led by "Corsair", who knows (almost) everything there is to know about assault mech tactics. There are few companies in the Inner Sphere that can boast as much tonnage as 2nd coy, and even fewer that have a command lance of four SLDF assault mechs. For all its power 2nd Company rarely gets to fight: They are there to act as a powerful reserve, defending landing sites, blocking enemy lines of advance - and occassionally providing devastating fire support. But they are too slow - and too valauble - to be of much use during maneuver warfare.

Command Lance

Sassy's command lance was recently upgraded with a full array of SLDF mechs from the "Rubicon Phase 2" caches. It's been a long time (2nd Succession War) since a lance this powerful has existed. Unfortunately the crews are struggling mightly with adapting to their new rides.

  • Marauder II - Cpt "Sassy", Lt "Firefly", Kills: 4. Sassy is Natasha Kamenskykh, cousin to Natalia from a different Wolf faction, and  a blood descendant of General Kerensky. Fought Takari for her command spot - she didn't win, but she did better than most. Gifted mechwarrior and officer, if a little bloodthirsty. She thinks very highly of herself. Doesn't like Natalia one bit (despite having barely ever having met), and seesm to think the whole "Exodus Clans are Returning" thing is just a trick she's using to control the Wolves. Firefly is formerly of the 1st Hesperus Militia. Dispossessed. Was a junior tank commander, but got called up for front line mechwarrior service as a replacement pilot (his aptitude scores were really good - plus the personnel officer figured a tank isn't THAT different from a mech - lol). Callsign related to estimated life expectancy for a tanker in a mech.
  • Thug - "Professor", Kills: 3. Formerly of the 1st Hesperus Militia. Dispossessed. Used to be a mechtech, but got called up for front line mechwarrior service as a replacement pilot (he flunked mechwarrior training in his youth). Callsign related to being smarter and better educated than the rest of the militia mechwarriors.
  • Thug - "Crow", Kills: 3. Dispossed mechwarrior from Hesperus II, piloted a assault mech in the militia, but is far down the list of pilots for a new  mech, fought with Takari vs the sword of light, and found the agressive style to his likeing.
  • Nightstar - "Trident", Kills: 3.  Like Crow, Trident lost a lot on HesperusII but not his love for piloting larges mechs in battle, asked for and was granted a discharge from the militia and joined the Katanas, has been working a long side the comstar pilots for last 6 months getting mechs in order.

Handler (Battle) Lance

The von Handlers are landed nobles from Hesperus II, that lost all when the fiefdom was burned to the ground and most of the serfs were killed. Disposessed in the battle to hold the landing zones in the opening days of the battle. The Duke of Hesperus aranged for them to get mechs with the Katanas, giving them a shot at getting their fortunes back and giving himself a few less mouths to feed and a lot less nagging about new mechs and new fiefdoms. The lance was reorganized as the Rubicon Phase 2, and the pilots are adapting to their new, improved rides.

  • Atlas - LtFrederick von Handler/Cad. Cassandra von Handler, "Bluebeard/Goldilocks", Kills: 4. Herr Frederick has his youngest daughter as a copilot, teaching her himself as he no longer has the founds to pay for a place at the Nagelring academy. His callsign is a reminder of his many failed marriages (and no, he didn't kill them, he got divorced).
  • Banshee - Moergan von Handler, "Serpent", Kills: 4. The second son, fought with his father and sister at Hesperus II. Nagelring graduate, bottom half.
  • Banshee - Wilfred von Handler, "Lion", Kills: 3. Third son, fought in the militia, and like most of them he ended up with no mech, joind his family in exile, becuse thats what a loyal son does. Expelled from Nagelring.
  • Banshee - Maria von Handler. "Lady", Kills: 5. Eldest daughter and heir to a burned out holding. The only one of the family not disposessed in battle; piloted an Atlas in the Duke, but that mech was needed for the 10th Lyran Guard. A good assault specialist. Nagelring top 10% of her class.

Star (Support) Lance

The 2nd Company Support or "Star" lance is crewed exlusively by ComStar pilots, seconded to the Lancers by order of Precentor Anastasia Blake. Despite having been part of the Lancers for several years they aren't really too comfortable around the other pilots, and tend to keep to themselves or hang out with other "Blakeists" as they are called.

  • Atlas - Aaron and Ovadia Goldstein, "Alpha", "Omega", Kills: 3. ComStar pilot/copilot. Identical twins. Sandhurst graduates. Both have received officer training. They remain aloof, even from their own "kind".
  • Stalker - Valentino Mix, "Crossbow", Kills: 3. ComStar pilot. From Switzerland. His father is a banker, his mother a model. Valentino, however, wanted to pilot a mech, so joined ComStar to have a shot at becoming a milita pilot. Top 5% of his Sandhurst class, but did not get accepted for command training. Has one of the best accuracy ratings in the entire BWL.
  • Stalker - Christiano Uriel, "Stomper", Kills: 2. ComStar pilot. Born in one of the aquahabitats in the Aztec-Caribbean region. Has been known to engage his enemies at point-blank/melee range. Perhaps a Stalker isn't the right mech for him. Of all the "Star" pilots, he's the one that hags out the most with the rest of the mortals.
  • Awesome 8R - Daria Sheglova, "Archangel", Kills: 3. ComStar pilot. Originally from the Siberian Autonomous Democratic Republic. In 3000 a limited edition calendar was printed by the Katanas' mechtechs featuring 12 months of Daria. Reprimands ensued. The 3001 printing actually took place, but the materials were confiscated by security. No 3002 edition was (sadly) produced.

3RD COMPANY

3rd Coy isn't really a combat unit, but more of an administrative collection of support lances and colorful characters. Redline thinks he's in charge, but he really isn't an effective leader. There is an almost unviersal lack of leadership experience and staff training (Felix is an exception - but she's a very recent addition). Unit cohesion is low - it's every man for himself and C-bills are more important than the man next to you (typical merc, but not worthy of the Katanas). In combat situations the 3rd is usually split up and assinged picemeal to other units. Perhaps for the better, yet hardly ideal.

Command Lance

Calling it a command lance is porbably overdoing it, but that's what Redline calls it. Comprised of a ponderous, but jump-capable, Highlander and three lighter, faster mechs, the lance has something of an identity problem. It's also badly led. Redline is a fine warrior, but a lousy commander. His two ComStar pilots think he's a dangerous joke - and their opinion of Mistress is no higher. Redline and Mistress work well enough together, but she has never accepted him as anything more than a peer, so she considers his "orders" as more like suggestions.

  • Highlander - "Redline", Kills: 7. Independent mechwarrior. Formerly of the Skye Ranger, LCAF. So named because he pushes his mech to the edge - and beyond. A colorful character of Scottish anscestry, Redline has more or less promoted himself to lance commander. His mech is Steienr blue-gray with clan tartan details.
  • Victor - "Bulletfarm", Kills: 6. ComStar pilot. Uses ammo like there is no tomorrow. Fishbait does too, but she cores shit every time. With Bulletfarm it's all simulated kills.
  • Grasshopper - "Hardcore", Kills: 4. ComStar pilot. Everything is by the book. And then some. He uses an infantry helmet and flak vest when "out in the field", checks out emergenacy exists and pays attention to security briefs.
  • Quickdraw - "Mistress", Kills: 6. Independent mechwarrior. Very experienced. About as colorful as Redline - he's the consumate Highlander, she's the Dominatrix. Her mech is painted black (but she always wears somethign yellow, usually a scarf). Picked up 2nd time on Galatea.

Support Lance

This lance has two tasks: Act as the battalion C3 nexus (Cyclops) and provide heavy fire support in the form of a Stalker - and two massive "Royal" King Crabs.

  • Cyclops - "Rouge", Kills: 3. Came, like many other Katanas, by way of Solaris. Made a name in the heavy league, but never managed to grab the top spot. Needed a fresh start or boost to existing career. So the idea is to get kills, get  screen time, get back to Solaris and make it big. A skilled mechwarrior, but not much of a leader. Finds "babysitting" in the Cyclops to be terminally boring. Always talks about leaving.
  • Stalker - Fred Hendrics "Bandit", Kills: 4. Colorful ex-Marik house warrior. Lost his mech at Hesperus. For a time he masqueraded as a Steiner officer. He was eventually arrested - and give the opportunity to join the Katanas. He's a very charismatic man, with a great deal of connections and influence. He's probably also an excellent mechwarrior - but his Stalker is rarely in a position for him to shine.
  • King Crab "Royal" - Karen Mercy, "Showtime", Kills: 4. From the Outworlds Alliance. Former gladiator/merc - Solaris isn't the only place with gladiator combat, and mercs are in high demand in the Periphery too. Went to Galatea to find fame and fortune. Young and ambitious, she wants nothing more than piloting her King Crab into the thick of battle. Sadly she's usually stuck guarding stuff and acting as a reserve.
  • King Crab "Royal" - James Conway, "Tag", Kills: 4. Former Marik guard. Lost his position, titles and future to house in-fighting. Fled to Steiner space and ended up as a merc prospect on Glaatea. Wants revenge against those who wronged him. His lancemates get a little tired of his whining and complaining.

Reality (Battle) Lance

This lance is composed of tvi-vid personalities. It's main purpose if to generate viewers for Channel 7's "Mercenary Hearts". A secondary purpose is to move some of the media focus away from the Katanas and other key parts of the Lancers.

  • Crusader-3L, Cassandra Harmonie, "Snake eater", Kills: 6. Resently taken into the Katanas from Stones Mercs during the "grim Homage" anbush, got four kills confirmed by Siri vs the pirates of Oberon, before Takri tok her Huncback out. Passed a very close inspection from Fishbait.
  • Grasshopper (Lindorm)Ashild Varhaug, "Einherjar", Kills: 6. Puppy's younger sister. Used her part of Puppy's estate to invest in her own mech (it's an old, but mechanically sound, gladiator mech). She was recruited by Headless and CH7 to give the show (and by extension mercenary Hearts season 3+) a familiy story angle. She got her sisters mech lindorm after making ace in the "Grim Homage" ambush.
  • Quickdraw - Marcell Duval, "Headless", Kills: 6. Headless' only claim to fame was almost winning the Earthwerk Cup of 2997. Instead he got his cockpit kicked off by Takari, and spent months in hospital before returning to the torurnament scene - without much success.  He's gotten a second chance now that he's worked out a deal with Channel 7 (he's the brains behind the "There Can be Only One" show). He'll join the Lancers and prove he's more than a headless galactic joke.
  • Wolverine - Fred Raider, "Howler", Kills: 4. Winner of the Channel 7 reality show "There Can Be Only One", earning him a place with the Lancers. He's a skilled gladiator, but does he have what it takes to be a Katana? His goal seems to be to get famous - or die trying.

 TRAINING CADRE

The main mechwarrior training company is organized under Col. Satan. The 1-lance cadre under Col. Kamikaze consists of officer cadets that travels with Takari and the command lance on the Grace. It's currently comprised of four Nagelring graduates, presumably ones with loyalties to Archon Alessandro.

The plan is for cadets to be moved over to SLDF Fleas once they have been recovered from pirate custodianship.

  • Flea-16  - Hans Morver, "Hansel". Kills: 1. The Morver family history is one of endless war and displacement. From the Reunification War up until the present day, the Morvers have been soldiers and officers. Too often they were on the losing side, and their lands and titles swept away. Hans' father is an ex-merc who is a Baron of Tharkad, a title awarded him by Alessandro's father for outstanding service to the Archon. (details are not public). Hans has three older siblings, all of them Nagelring graduates. Despite his youth and privileged status he's a hard man, callous even. He's also very guarded and hard to understand.
  • Flea-16  - Fredric von Mallé, "Catfish". Fredric's father is Frederic the Elder, Landsknecht of the Commonwealth's Royal Guards. He was knighted by Alessandro for his bravery in combat with the snakes and has served as a guardian of the Archon's palace since. His low social status means Fredric isn't really a noble (his father is, but it's not hereditary). He has only mediocre scores from Nagelring, but is an exceptional pilot in every way. He will likely never amount to nothing in the LCAF.
  • Flea-16  - Madeleine Monzora, "Spinster". Comes from a family that claims ties back to 16th century Italy. Her mother is Countessa Monzora, the ruler of a vast and desolate (less than 100k population) peninsula located in Tharkad's northern sub-arctic region. Madeleine wanted to be a court lady, like her elder sisters, but her mother sent her to war college. Since joining the Katanas she's bloomed - violence and adventure excites and invigorates her.
  • Flea-16  - Richard Develin, "Dirt". Kills:1. The nephew of the Duke of New Earth (Tau Ceti). Richard is by far the highest socially ranked of the cadets. Sad to say he's also the least talented mechwarrior (he's not bad, just not quite up there with the other 3). He doesn't seem to have any motivation except doing his duty, as commanded by his father and the Archon.
