Characteristics

by DM B

When it comes to characteristics I'm tempted to drop one; Perception (in WFRP its part of Intelligence, which works well enough). It seems to me that no matter how you look at it the mental stats (Int, Per, WP, Fel) are not on part with the physical ones (S, T, Ag)

The alternative is splitting Ag into Coordination and Reflexes, but that just makes Ag weaker. It doesn't make the mental stats any better.

Well, I haven't decided anything, but if you have any input feel free to offer it.

I'm also extending the stat gain table to at least +30%. By extension will get rid of the cheapest advance scheme (100 --> 250 --> 500 --> 500) and just replace it with another (100 --> 250 --> 500 --> 750). Otherwise the system will tend to break down as its only ever usueful to buy the cheapest stats. And that's not how its supposed to be.

Looks good, as for Per removal I`m for it. It has been a weakness of the warhammer range to have to meany intelect stats from the start. less is more

Remember the old 1st Edition WFRP? It had WS, BS, S, T, I (Instead of Agility); which was cool for physical stats. And W + A of course. But then there was Dex, Ld, Int, Cl, WP, AND Fel. So basically everyone took A first, then bought WS, S, T and I (for Dodge). And then maybe Cool and WP.

What about dropping Int. It's mainly a plot device. If you have studied a field of learning you knows more about your surrounding. I.e. either you know or you don't. (And the GM must tell the player what he knows anyway.) Then again I don't know anything about the Psykic system and if intelligence is very vital there. I find Perception a more character defining characteristics in game session, Intelligence are used more between sessions. Just a thought.

We'll replace Int + Per with ACUMEN; keenness of mind. It will cover Perception-related skills and Int-based skills like say Tech use. It could also be use to solve technical problems and puzzles, but for real problem-solving etc. that's up to the players and not any stat of their PC.

How does this sound? Assassin/Killer: Cheap WS+BS+Ag. Expensive Fel. Rest normal. This one wasn't difficult at all. Arbites/Enforcer: Cheap WS+S+T. Expensive Ag. Rest normal. Arbites are definitely shooty, but not as shooty as assassins and some others. And I always envisioned them as big and tough, rather than extremely fast. Or maybe they should be just Cheap WS+S, and no Expensive stats? Input?

Both tweeks are fine by me. The first as you say will illustrate a more gruntish (dare I say Dreddish) chap. So I would lean to that one.

Then we'll go for that one: Arbites/Enforcer: Cheap WS+S+T. Expensive Ag. Rest normal.

Also, don't forget that WS (NOT BS) is used for shooting with weapons when in melee (so Arbites are good at shooting charging rioters in the face :-)
